4 things to watch for -- Monday, July 8th

WDIV Local 4 News Today Team

Brandon Roux: It was one heck of a hot week!  Can I be honest? This is my least favorite time of the year. The forecast is a bit of a broken record, or similar to a Florida forecast. ‘It’s gonna be hot and humid again today with pop up showers in the heat of the afternoon.’

I do not care for the heat, and I need my forecast to change at least a little bit from day to day which is a major benefit to living in Metro Detroit. But in the dog days of summer, we get stretches where the weather just doesn’t change much.

We hope your 4th was a good one. Twice this week I helped Jason Carr navigate through the weather as these PM pop-ups can really mess with your pool parties. On Tuesday I was able to help him stay out of trouble as dangerous storms blew up. I told him to have the cushions inside and umbrellas closed by 6/7pm in the backyard. The next day he said he must have forgotten the umbrella advice as his patio umbrella was found on the other side of his yard. Thursday, I said there would be showers and storms and that they’d last for about 30 minutes and move on. Jason said the one that hit him in Oakland County at 3pm, lingered for almost two hours. Ouch! I’m sorry pal, that’s on me but just about everyone else had those brief showers or no showers yesterday.

Hope you had a wonderful 4th of July. But, my question, how much longer can we expect our neighbors to be lighting those fireworks? My belief is July 1-5 for fireworks. That’s the window you should be allowed to light em’ off. It looks pretty dry around here for the next two weeks and we don’t want folks starting wildfires with fireworks.
