1-year-old Detroit girl found dead

Zyia Turner went missing from home in 18000 block of Brinker Street

DETROIT – Police sources tell Local 4's Chauncy Glover one-year-old Zyia Turner was found dead by detectives Saturday morning in the closet of a family member's home.

Sources confirm the home Zyia's body was found in is on Brinker Street on Detroit's east side.

Local 4 is told at least 10 to 12 people live in this home.

Zyia Turner went missing Friday evening. She was last seen alive at her grandmother's house in the 18000 block of Brinker Street.

Family members say Zyia was being watched by family members while her mother underwent surgery at a hospital. The girl somehow got out of the house and went missing.

The last time anyone recalls seeing her is 3:30 p.m. Friday.

Detroit police, with K9s, searched the area near 7 Mile Road and Conant Street. Officers went house to house and broke down the door to a nearby home to make sure Zyia was not inside.

Her mother, Erika James, does not believe she just wandered off.

"My baby don't go to nobody. Nobody at all," said James. "I just wish whoever has my baby would bring her back. Just bring her back."
