When Sandoval was by the curb, a red 2000 or 2001 Dodge Ram hit him and the garbage can.

The driver stopped to remove the can from underneath the truck and while Sandoval lay dying on the ground, he drove away.

"He could stop for a garbage can that had no life in it, but my son laid there lifeless," said mother Lisa Sandoval.

The grieving mother says she ran to her son after he was hit and listened to him take his last breath.

"He was breathing for a little bit, long enough for me to tell him I'm sorry and that I loved him. That was it," she said.

Lisa described her son as a big clown who often played jokes on people.

Police are still looking for the driver, who is described as a white man with a mustache.
