DETROIT – Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh lost a brother on Sunday, and the city lost a police sergeant.
Pugh's brother, Almondo Greer-Travis, died at the age of 40.

He was a sergeant with the Detroit Police Department's 12th Precinct.
Greer-Travis collapsed while on the job and officers rushed him to Detroit Receiving Hospital. Doctors tried to revive him, but he died at the hospital.
The cause of death has not been determined. An autopsy will be performed.
Pugh released the following statement on Sunday:
"It is with great sadness that I announce my brother, Almondo Greer-Travis, a police sergeant for the Detroit Police Department's 12th Precinct, passed away earlier today. This is devastating for me, my family and the city which he served honorably. Please say a prayer for his three children and his wife who is also a police sergeant."
In a statement released Sunday, Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee said Greer-Traivs was a 16 and 1/2 year veteran of the force.
"(He) collapsed and was in obvious medical distress while on duty in the precinct station," Godbee said in the statement. "Losing one of Detroit's Finest fills us all with sorrow and will be especially challenging for those of us who worked alongside Sgt. Greer-Travis; yet we will remain strong and continue to serve the citizens of Detroit. On behalf of the men and women of the Detroit Police Department, I wish to express my deepest sympathy and prayers to the family and friends of Sgt. Almondo Greer-Travis regarding the loss of our fellow brother in Blue."
