Detroit Financial Review team members ordered to court

Judge asks to know why team violated Open Meetings Act with subcommittee

DETROIT – An Ingham County Circuit Court judge on Thursday ordered all 10 members of the Detroit Financial Review team to appear in court at 10 a.m. March 12 for a show cause hearing.

The judge requests the team members show why they are not in contempt of court for failing to follow his order to meet in the open, in accordance with the Open Meetings Act.

This is concerning the team's subcommittee closed meetings.

A judge ruled earlier this month that the 10-member review team must meet in public to comply with the state's Open Meetings Act.

They met in public for the first time Tuesday.

At the meeting inside the Cadillac Place, the team took public comment from the man who fought in court to get the meeting in the first place – Robert Davis. It was his lawsuit that the judge made his ruling on.

He asked Michigan Treasurer Andy Dillon whether any of the team's previous private meetings would be redone.

He was told they would not.

Dillon created a subcommittee and adjourned the meeting in under 20 minutes.
