Detroit teen gunned down in broad daylight

16-year-old girl shot and killed on Detroit's west side

DETROIT – Police are investigating a deadly shooting that took the life of a 16-year-old girl on Detroit's west side.

When officers arrived on the scene at the home on Oakman Boulevard, they discovered a young girl laying on the front lawn suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.  A 4-year-old boy, possibly the teen's brother, is a witness in the shooting.

Police have taken the 4-year-old boy to a safe location in protective custody to speak with psychologists about what happened at the Oakman Boulevard home.

Investigators say they do not believe this was a random shooting, and they do not believe it was drug related.  A person of interest is in police custody.
