Brown posted this statement Tuesday to his Facebook page:

"After careful consideration with my family, I have decided not to seek a second term on Detroit City Council. I have dedicated three decades serving the citizens of Detroit in the Police Department and most recently as Council President Pro-Tem. I am thankful for the overwhelming support Detroiters have given me during that time. I also appreciate those who have encouraged me to seek re-election."

"As I conclude this four-year term on Detroit City Council, my focus will remain on the three areas I set out to address as an elected official: improving public safety, educating our kids, and operating a fiscally-responsible government that delivers quality services. In the future, I will seek other ways to serve our community."
