Maintenance worker accused of shooting woman, starting Detroit medical offices building fire

Victim's daughter says woman was shot to death Tuesday morning before fire broke out at her work

DETROIT – A Detroit woman says her mother, Sharita Williams, was shot and killed Tuesday morning inside the medical office building where she worked.

The building went up in flames after the alleged shooting. Delisha Williams, Sharita's daughter, said her grandmother broke the news.

"Not only did I lose my dad at an early age, now I lost my mother, and I have younger brothers and sisters under me. How am I supposed to tell them mom isn't coming home?" Delisha Williams said.

Sources tell the Local 4 Defenders that the alleged gunman was Myron Williams, a building maintenance worker.

Myron Williams' cousin says he got a call from Myron about 6 a.m. Monday. He sounded distraught and was talking about a family member who had been murdered years ago.

"I don't know what happened. He gave me a call in the morning, said he loved me. He said he could never get over my brother and the way he got killed, because we all were close," said Arthur Hatcher.

It's unclear what the exact relationship was between Sharita Williams and Myron Williams. They were not related. Both were married but something was going on between the two.

Coworkers first learned of the issue last week when police arrived at the building.

"Police were here last week regarding some photographs involving some of the parties here, I guess," said Dr. Stuart Kirschenbam, who heard gunshots.

Gunshots heard Monday night at Myron Williams' home

Police were at Mryon Williams' home Monday night in northwest Detroit. They went to the home after gunshots were reported. Neighbors say they heard those shots.

"The only thing that I heard was a gunshot, and it was only one shot, and I came to the door and I saw (Myron), and I said, 'What were you doing back there?" He said that somebody had just shot at him," said a neighbor.

Investigators say Williams had become obsessed with Sharita Williams. He was told to stay away from her. However, he was back on Tuesday.

Police say he opened fire just moments after employees walked in the door.
