DETROIT – An 8-year-old's mission to help the homeless in Detroit has grabbed the attention of the White House.

Wearing his cape, Ewan Drum, known as "Super Ewan," organizes food and clothing donations for the homeless. One Saturday a month, Ewan and his family go to Roosevelt Park to pass out donations.
"I was thinking it would be a real big help to people who did not have homes, or shelters or anything," Ewan told Local 4 in an interview. "The homeless people get in a line and start coming through.We give them bags of lunches and goodies and ice cold water."

Ewan's efforts have expanded into a nonprofit, Super Ewan Inc.
His work has not only touched the Detroit community; he will be recognized Friday by President Barack Obama at the second annual White House Student Film Festival.
The festival is an opportunity for students in grades K-12 to produce short films on the idea of service and helping the community.
Ewan's film is one of 15 from around the country that were chosen.
