Detroit bus crashes into another bus, 2 cars at department bus yard

DETROIT – Detroit police are calling it malicious destruction of property.

A Detroit Department of Transportation bus was crashed Friday morning at one of the department's bus yards -- 1301 East Warren Avenue. Police say the man behind the wheel was a mechanic who was put on leave but recently brought back to work by DDOT.

He was in the lot Friday morning where some of the buses were left idling. He decided to take one of them on a joyride around the lot.

The bus' driver saw what he was doing and tried to stop him. That's when, police say, the mechanic rammed the bus into another DDOT bus which ultimately crashed into two parked cars (see image).

No one was injured. The mechanic fled. No arrests were made.

Detroit police are seeking charges against the man for malicious destruction of property.
