DETROIT - An east side Detroit church is hosting a vigil to remember victims of violent crime in the city.

The 4th annual "Fallen Angels" program is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. Saturday at Church of the Messiah, 231 E. Grand Boulevard.

The vigil is presented by Citizens United for Safety. Each person attending will receive a miniature angel in honor of a crime victim.

Organizers also are urging vigil participants to help patrol Detroit streets and neighborhoods during the Angels' Night arson prevention effort. Each year, volunteers help city officials keep an eye on vacant and abandoned structures over the 3-day Halloween period.
