Eastpointe police: Girl escapes being snatched off the street

13-year-old tells police she was shoved into gray car, but jumped out and ran away

EASTPOINTE, Mich. - Eastpointe police said a 13-year-old girl managed to escape from a man who grabbed her off the street Monday and shoved her inside a car.

Police said the girl told them she was near Papa John's on 9 Mile and Kelly Roads when the man took her by the waist, covered her mouth and told her to not scream.

Police said the girl was put into a gray car. But while the man was driving away, police said, the girl was able to jump out and run to a nearby house for help.

She wasn't hurt.

Police said extra patrols will be out in the area.

Police have not released a detailed description of the man.
