Lions took chance with Ziggy Ansah in 2013 NFL Draft

Lions draft 9 players in 2013 draft, filled needs on both sides of ball

DETROIT - The Lions 2013 draft is complete. They made a total of nine picks: two defensive ends, a cornerback, a guard, a punter, a running back, a wide receiver, a tight end and a linebacker.


  • Ezekiel Ansah – Defensive End from BYU – picked first round, 5th overall. Ansah, from Ghana, started playing football in 2010. Jim Schwartz said he expects Ansah to help the team immediately.
  • Darius Slay – Defensive back from Mississippi State – picked in the 2nd round, 36th overall. Slay tore his meniscus recently, but the Lions do not expect him to be out long.
  • Larry Warford – Guard from Kentucky – picked in the 3rd round, 65th overall. Lions expect him to start right away and make an immediate impact.
  • Devin Taylor – Defensive end from South Carolina – picked in the 4th round, 132nd overall. The Lions add to their defensive line after losing three starters from last year.
  • Sam Martin – Punter from Appalachian State – picked 5th round, 165th overall. Martin Mayhew calls Martin a versatile kicker who can do it all.
  • Corey Fuller – Wide Receiver from Virginia Tech – picked 6th round, 171st overall. Mayhew has said Fuller is more of a developmental player who can help on special teams.
  • Theo Riddick – Running back from Notre Dame – picked in the 6th round, 199th overall. Riddick ran a 4.86 second 40 at the combine and is known for his speed.
  • Michael Williams - Tight end from Alabama – picked in the 7th round, 211th overall. 9th Crimson Tide player drafted in 2013, Williams finishes his college career with 51 catches for 503 yards and 7 TD's.
  • Brandon Hepburn – Linebacker from Florida A&M – picked in 7th round, 245th overall. According to his NFL draft profile, Hepburn had 86 tackles, 5.5 sacks, seven pass breakups and one forced fumble last season.
