Opening statements start Wednesday in trial for man charged in Cipriano family attack

Mitchell Young faces 1st degree murder, attempted murder charges in deadly 2012 baseball bat attacks at family's Farmington Hills home

PONTIAC, Mich. - Opening statements start today in the trial for a man charged with 1st degree murder in the April 2012 baseball beatings at a Farmington Hills family's home.

Mitchell "Roderick" Young faces his own trial after codefendant Tucker Cipriano pleaded no contest to felony murder in the attacks that left Tucker's father, Bob Cipriano, dead and his mother and brother severely injured.

Young also faces an attempted murder charge. The jury was selected Monday.

Prosecutors say Young and Tucker Cipriano were smoking synthetic marijuana and were seeking drugs and money when they attacked.

Young's trial will go on unless there is a guilty or no contest plea, such as Tucker's.
