DETROIT - Police in Windsor, Ontario, are looking for the man who robbed two stores just a few hours, and a short distance, apart.

The first robbery happened Wednesday night about 9 p.m. at The Corner Store, which is on Chippawa Street.

The store clerk told police the robber jumped onto the counter and demanded money while brandishing a claw hammer.  The robber got away with an unknown amount of cash.

A K9 unit was called to the scene but couldn't catch up with the robber.

Police said the man tried to hold up an Esso Gas Station on Howard Avenue about 4 hours later, at 1 a.m.

The station's clerk refused to hand over any cash and the robber ran away on foot.

Police have released a picture of the robber that was taken from surveillance cameras at the gas station.

The man in both robberies is described as being between 20 and 25 years old, of Middle Eastern decent, 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build.

He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with black track pants that had white stripes down the legs and Adidas running shoes. He was also wearing a dark scarf or shirt that was partially covering his face.

Anyone with information on the robber, is asked to call Windsor police at 519-255-6700 or Crime Stoppers at 519-258-TIPS (8477).
