Slight risk for severe weather

DETROIT - We are watching thunderstorms rumbling across Lake Michigan this morning. And, a second line of stormy weather behind it and both are heading towards SE Michigan.

It looks like the bulk of the first wave will be mainly north of Metro Detroit from Lansing into the Thumb Region. Some of these morning storms will produce heavy rain, damaging winds, and deadly lightning.

The second wave shows a better track to the south towards Detroit. Most of the storm activity picks up after 7 or 8am and the Storm Prediction Center has placed us under a slight risk for Severe Weather today. Highs will climb into the mid to upper 80s close to 90° and that afternoon heat may spark a few scattered storms later on. So, keep your eyes to the skies both this morning and afternoon.

We have more stormy weather Wednesday with thundershowers producing scattered soaking downpours. More scattered storms will come and go Thursday with summer-like high temps in the 80s most of the week ahead. Expect periods of stormy weather coming and going most of the week mixed with periods of decent weather. So, it's not an all day or all week wash out for any of the days ahead. Early indications and model date point to scattered storms all the way through the upcoming weekend and into next week. Don't cancel any of your plans but be prepared for touch and go storms where it's boom or bust.
