Man accidentally fires gun while adjusting pants in Clinton Township secretary of state office

51-year-old man charged with misdemeanor for accidental discharge

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A 51-year-old man was charged with a misdemeanor Thursday after he accidentally fired his gun inside the secretary of state office in Clinton Township, police said.

The man was standing in line at the office near 16 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue. Police said he went to adjust his pants and accidentally fired his gun.

The bullet was fired into the floor, and nobody was injured, officials said. The only damage was a tear in the carpet.

There were around 12-15 people inside the office when the shot was fired, police said.

Officials said the man has a concealed carry pistol license, but they took his weapon and license after the incident.

The man has been charged with a misdemeanor for accidental discharge.
