ANN ARBOR, Mich. - A 36-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in connection with sexual assaults from 2012 and 2013 that happened near the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor, police said.

Jimmy Huy Nguyen is accused of sexually assaulting two U of M students in the 600 block of E. University Avenue while he was also a student in 2012 and 2013.

During the investigation, police said they learned Nguyen had left Michigan and fled to China in early 2013. Two felony warrants were issued for his arrest after officials confirmed he fled the country.

Investigators recently learned Nguyen was trying to re-enter the United States. With help from the FBI, Ann Arbor police took Nguyen into custody Tuesday as he exited a plane at Detroit Metro Airport.

Nguyen is charged with three counts of third-degree criminal sexual assault, each of which carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison.

The reported assaults were the subject of several University of Michigan crime alerts.

Nguyen was arrested Wednesday and is being held at the Washtenaw County Jail.
