Detroit police are looking for the driver of a car that killed a pedestrian Friday evening on the city's northeast side.

Detroit police say a man was struck and killed by a hit and run driver in the northeast section of the city Friday evening.

A man walking near a gas station at Van Dyke and 8 Mile Road was hit by a car that drove off from the scene.

The car was traveling southbound on Van Dyke when it struck the pedestrian.

The victim, who has not been identified, is believed to be a man in his 50s.

Witnesses told the police the hit and run vehicle was a sedan dark in color, possibly burgundy.  The car is believed to have sustained considerable front-end damage in the crash.
