Medical examiner says Troy father died from blunt force trauma to head

Patrick Mikes had been missing since July 27; Son stands charged with open murder

TROY, Mich. – The Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office has ruled the death of a 55-year-old Troy father a homicide, saying he died from blunt force trauma to the head.

Patrick Mikes was reported missing at the end of July after his two sons said he left for a bike ride and never came home.

His body was found Friday in a cornfield in Montrose Township.

The medical examiner used dental records to confirm his identify.

His bike was also found just feet from his body.

Police had said they thought Mikes was killed in his basement before being dumped in the cornfield, which is north of Flint. They also said they had found evidence that there had been a struggle and large amounts of blood spilled.

Son facing murder, credit card fraud charges

Mikes' son, 21-year-old Patrick Mikes Jr., was arraigned is charged with open murder in his father's death. He's also charged with three counts of illegally using a financial transaction device for allegedly using his younger brother's credit card.
