Metro Detroit flower shop gives back, one bouquet at a time

Nominations being taken at Ribal Floral in downtown Plymouth

PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Plymouth's Lori Morrison has been surrounded by flowers for more than 30 years.

"It's my calling card. Some people send thank you cards, I do flowers," she said.

She's been the owner Ribal Floral in downtown Plymouth for 12 years. After talking to an out-of-state colleague, an idea bloomed. One that would not only help her small business but honor and recognize the "every day" people who go above and beyond and in every day life.

"There's a lot of people who have helped me, given me referrals, given me business, this is my way to give back to those who have been so kind to me over the years," she said.

The concept is called "Good Job Bouquet."

Once a week for the rest of the year, Lori will hand deliver a bouquet of flowers to one deserving person in the Plymouth-Canton area, for free. Since this is all about community, Lori is asking the people who live in the area, to choose who they feel deserves the extra smile.

Lori says, "It can be any one, maybe the mail man we take for granted, someone who walked your dog or brought you soup when you were sick."

The first winner was Domenic Tassielli, the owner of The Crow's Nest on Canton Center Road in Canton, whose "Kindness and sincerity with his customers is something that goes above and beyond," Morrison said.

This weeks winner was Lauren Langkabe, owner of Lee's Chicken on Ann Arbor Rd. A resident nominated Lauren after the restaurants credit card machine broke down on Halloween. There were so many people in line that evening that Lauren let people take there food home on the honor system that would pay the next time they came in.

"That's the type of thing you just don't see these days, people don't do that stuff anymore," said Lori, through tears.

Lauren said, "This is remarkable, I can't believe someone nominated me, I will cherish this moment."

Lori posted the idea for the promotion on her Facebook page, and the response "was overwhelming." She plans to post the weekly winners, and other information about the promotion, on the store's Facebook page and in the store. There a few ways submit nominees; email or fill our forms available at the store located at 728 S. Main in Plymouth.
