WASHINGTON – The family of Alexandria shooting victim and Michigan native Matt Mika said he has been discharged from the hospital.

In a statement released Friday, the family said it was pleased to report Mika was discharged from George Washington University Hospital.

"We are truly grateful for the compassionate, world-class care provided by the doctors, nurses and team at George Washington, and we will never forget and continue to be grateful for the heroism shown by the U.S. Capitol Police," the family said in the statement. "We truly appreciate the prayers, words of encouragement and support from Matt's friends, family and people across the nation and the world."

Mika, of Oakland County, is the current director of government relations at Tyson Foods and was shot when a lone gunman opened fire at a GOP congressional baseball team’s practice in Alexandria, Virginia.

Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise (R), congressional aide Zach Barth and U.S. Capitol Police Officer Crystal Griner were also shot in the ambush.
