LANSING, Mich. – Michigan regulators have approved a major utility's plan to phase out its coal-fired power plants and rely increasingly on renewable power sources and efficiency to provide electricity.

As part of the plan, the Jackson-based utility will retire two units near Bay City in 2023. Three remaining generators would close between 2031 and 2040.
