Michigan State Police investigate report of highway shooting in Detroit

Semi-truck suffered damage, nobody hurt

Detroit, Mich. - Investigators with the Michigan State Police Metro Post are investigating a possible freeway shooting that happened around 3 a.m. Friday.

A preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a semi-truck was northbound on M39 near 8 Mile Road in the City of Detroit. The driver of the semi-truck observed a green in color minivan travelling next to him and indicated he observed an arm extend from the driver side window with a gun firing at least one time. The semi-truck then drove to Sterling Heights before reporting the incident.  A preliminary inspection was conducted and there appears to be damage to the front of the semi.  Northbound M-39 was closed and an attempt to locate any shell casing was made.  There were not any shell casing recovered from the scene. The freeway was re-opened at approximately 5:50 am.  The semi-truck has been transported to the Michigan State Police Sterling Heights lab to have it processed for evidence.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured. The Michigan State Police Special Investigative Section continues to investigate this incident. Anyone who may have witnessed this event or has any information are asked to call the Michigan State Police tip line at 248 584-5740 ext. 5530.
