OAK PARK, Mich. - A suicidal driver fleeing from police ends up taking an innocent person's life.
A suicidal driver fleeing police Monday night in Oak Park ended up taking an innocent person's life.
Police said officers were called to the apartment of a 34-year-old woman who was making it clear she was going to kill herself. But the woman got into a silver Chevy Equinox and drove over grass to get away from police.
The woman took off down Coolidge Road.
Police called off the chase because it was too dangerous. But moments later, the woman sped through a red light just past 9 Mile Road and T-boned a Dodge SUV.
The family inside the SUV was returning from a 5th-grade graduation. The 40-year-old mom and her 10-year-old daughter had to be cut out from the wreckage.
Another 22-year-old family member was killed by the impact.
Police said the suicidal woman was not hurt. She was taken into custody.
