1 hurt when gunman fires shots into Detroit building on Goldengate Street

Victim expected to be OK, gunman still on the lam

DETROIT – Detroit police are investigating an early-morning shooting Wednesday that has sent one man to the hospital.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. at the Fireweed Universe City organization, which is in the 100 block of Goldengate Street.

Police on scene told Local 4, the gunman came to the door of the organization and fired four shots inside. One of the bullets struck a member in his buttocks and landed in his groin. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

According to their website, Fireweed Universe-City is a grassroots movement to transform Detroit neighborhoods into a sustainable and eco-friendly community.

The gunman is still on the loose.
