TROY, Mich. - Two people were killed early Monday morning on I-75 in Troy when their car collided with a semi-truck.

The crash happened in the northbound lanes near Big Beaver just after 12 a.m.

Police said the semi-truck, which was carrying furniture, hit a Pontiac Grand Prix -- causing the semi to jack-knife and pin the car under its trailer.

The semi and the car caught fire.

Police said the two people in the car died at the scene. Their names aren't yet being released.

The semi driver was taken to the hospital with some injuries.

Police said the Pontiac was seen by witnesses travelling in the right lane at a slow rate of speed with four-way flashers on, but not its headlights.

The northbound lanes between Big Beaver were shut down for more than six hours. They reopened at about 6:45 a.m.
