BROWNSTOWN TWP., Mich. – Bright lights at night, loud noise and foul balls; neighbors that live near one Brownstown Township softball field say they've had enough.
Township officials say they plan on expanding the park in question.
Some residents in Llyod's Mobile Home Community are not happy with that decision.
Sharon Kris has lived in the community for 49 years.
Her lot has a front row seat to the softball fields on the other side of King Road. When the light shines she sees it and when the crowd cheers she hears it all.
"It's too much right behind us, it's just too much," said Kris. "I've been here forever and I don't do a lot of complaining but this is one thing I am complaining about."
Residents will need to get use to the sights and sounds of a new ball park literally in their backyard.
The city plans to makeover 26 acres of land on the other side of King Road near Telegraph.
A new pavilion and a new splash park are also planned for the vacant field.
"We meet with the representative of that neighborhood and heard her concerns we also went out and hired a sound and lighting professional company and we've expressed to those residents that at the time of construction or near construction, when construction documents are finalized we will certainly sit down with them and break bread to further discuss their needs," said the Economic Development Manager Joe DiSanto. "The park is going to happen but we want input"
DiSanto says a natural barrier is planned to drown out noise and an electronic system will be used to turn off the lights on time.
Final construction plans for the ball field are set to be done by fall.
Once those are done city officials plan to get input from nearby residents and the ground-breaking is expected to happen in spring.
