Birmingham considers gun ban

Effort to change Open Carry law underway in Birmingham

Headline Goes Here

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. - The Birmingham city commission is asking its city manager to talk with other communities about possibly seeking change in Michigan's Open Carry gun law.

Troy teen Shawn Michael Combs was arrested this spring for opening carrying a rifle in Birmingham. He was acquitted of all charges.

The Open Carry law has exceptions for courts, churches and other locations.

City leaders suggest council chambers and libraries be added to the list with the aim of preventing tragic accidents.
