CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. - A man and woman face charges after, police say, they stole purses from shoppers at parking lots in Chesterfield Township.

Jonathon Bolotta, 34, and Vanessa Sexton, 35, both of Chesterfield Township, are jailed after police said the couple worked together to steal purses from shoppers last week at Meijer and Target store parking lots.

According to police, Bolotta was spotted Wednesday grabbing a purse from a 68-year-old Ray Township woman's vehicle in the Meijer lot. Police say the woman chased him down and threw a bag of groceries at Bolotta before he fled in a white 1993 Chrysler Lebaron.

On Thursday, police say Sexton and Bolotta were casing customers together. They attempted to steal another purse, but this time witnesses called 911.

Police caught up to the couple in the Lebaron and pulled them over. Bolotta was driving with a suspended license and Sexton had an outstanding warrant for her arrest, police say. They were both arrested.

Bolotta is charged with larceny from a person and three counts of possessing a stolen credit card. He is held in the Macomb County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond.

Sexton is charged with accessory after the fact and lying to a peace officer during a crime investigation. She is held in jail on a $25,000 cash bond.
