Chesterfield Township woman's purse stolen as she walks to car outside Halloween store

Eyewitness to purse snatching chases robber into nearby apartment complex

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A trip to a Halloween store ended with a Chesterfield Township woman getting her purse stolen.

Police said a 49-year-old woman was walking away from a Halloween City store at 23 Mile Road and Gratiot Avenue when she heard footsteps of someone coming up quickly behind her. She said a man came up and ripped her purse from her shoulder and then took off across the parking lot.

A 21-year-old man who witnessed the robbery from his car got out and began chasing the man who stole the purse. The man ran into the Georgetown apartment complex and met up with a second man before disappearing into the complex on 23 Mile Road.

Chesterfield Township police said their investigation led them to a specific apartment in the Georgetown apartment complex. Inside they found Guy Peterson, 20, of Eastpointe, and Tyrel Green, 22, of Chesterfield Township, hiding in a closet. 

Officers also found the woman's wallet, checkbook and credit cards in the apartment.

Peterson and Green were charged Friday with two felonies; robbery unarmed and conspiracy to commit robbery unarmed. Both are 15 year felonies.

Peterson and Green are being held at the Macomb County Jail.
