E-Cigarette policy briefing Tuesday

Briefing for proposed e-cigarette legislation

 The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network along with the American Heart Association and The American Lung Association are holding a special policy briefing today to inform legislators about the safety concerns of e-cigarettes Tuesday.

Michigan lawmakers are considering legislation to grant e-cigarette productions special status under Michigan's current tobacco laws.

The bill would allow e-cigarettes to be exempt from current tobacco control laws.

Only a limited numbers of studies have been conducted to examined the side effects of e-cigarette vapor.

There are also concerns over studies which show e-cigarettes usage among middle and high school students has increased from 3.3% to 6.8% between 2011 and 2012.

There are over 250 types of e-cigarettes currently on the market.

The briefing will take place at 1:00 p.m. in Lansing at the Michigan Health and Hospital Association, Capitol Advocacy Center.
