HAMTRAMCK, Mich. – An elderly woman was taken into custody early Wednesday morning after she fired shots at Hamtramck police officers.
Police said they went to do a welfare check late Tuesday night on 80-year-old Christine Myrick at her home in the Colonial Housing projects, but when officers got to the door, she fired shots at them.
None of the officers were hit but Myrick then barricaded herself inside for more than five hours. She eventually surrendered peacefully.
Myrick's grandson, Kennard Williams, said she's been on edge and afraid of getting robbed ever since pranksters started knocking on her door late at night.
Williams said the whole situation is a big misunderstanding.
"She was terrified. It was after hours, they were wearing all black and weren't saying anything. My grandmother's mindset was someone was trying to come in and break in on me," he said. "It's amazing that one little old lady could cause so much ruckus."
