Enrollment deadline approaching for Michigan's prepaid college tuition program

Enrollment in MET must be completed online by Sept. 30

DETROIT – People have about two weeks left in the current enrollment period to buy into Michigan's prepaid college tuition program.

The Michigan Education Trust says it's waiving the $25 processing fee for enrollments completed online by Sept. 30 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the program known as MET.

MET plans let individuals and organizations pre-purchase credits toward future tuition at Michigan's public universities and community colleges, by locking in today's rates.

The MET plans refund the money if a student decides to attend a private or out-of-state school.

With MET, parents know tuition payments are covered no matter how high tuition rises. They also can deduct their MET payments from their state taxes. MET payments can be made in lump sums or spread over four, seven, 10 or 15 years.
