Facebook may be linked to Ypsilanti fight

Facebook comments may have sparked girls' brawl

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Ypsilanti police are investigating a fight that may have begun with comments made on Facebook.

Officers were called to South Grove Street and Michigan Avenue Thursday night and found a 14-year-old girl bleeding from her ear.

Tracy Martin lives in the area and said she looked out when police arrived.

"There was a girl laying next to the curb and she wasn't moving. You could tell that she was young and you see people standing around but nobody was really helping her or anything," Martin said.

Police confirmed that the 14-year-old girl and two 16-year-old girls got into a fight over comments that were posted on Facebook.

Martin found that shocking.

"There's no way in the world a 14-year-old or 16-year-old should be on Facebook in the first place," Martin said.

While the 14-year-old girl sustained a bloody ear, one of the 16-year-old girls said she was punched and kicked. Neither of the teens went to a hospital.

Ypsilanti police are continuing their investigation.  Criminal charges could be filed.
