Farmington Hills man heads to court in the death and dismemberment of girlfriend

Trial begins in death of Kaitlin Heir

William Michael Dhondt was charged with premeditated 1st degree murder in the strangulation death of his girlfriend. (WDIV, ClickOnDetroit.com)

A Farmington Hills man is heading to trial Monday for the murder and dismemberment of his 29-year-old girlfriend.

29-year-old William Dhondt is facing first degree murder and mutilation of a body in the death of Kaitlin Hehir.

Police say Dhondt strangled Hehir on February 23rd 2013 during an argument.

He then proceeded to hide the evidence by dismembering her body with a knife and electric saw.

When police went to search the house they found the body parts. 

According to reports, Dhondt and Hehir had been drinking on the day of the argument.

Jury selection and opening arguments will take place today.  

The trial is expected to last a week.
