Ferndale could cut 4 firefighters due to budget

Positions had been funded by FEMA grant

Headline Goes Here

Ferndale faces the loss of, up to, four firefighters as the city works to cut $1 million from the city budget.

Fire Chief Keith Sullivan tells Local 4 he is working on a plan to save some, if not all, those jobs.  The jobs are at risk because they were funded by FEMA grants that are expiring.

The council will meet at City Hall at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Ferndale faces about a $1 million deficit for the 2014 fiscal year that begins July 1.

Declining property values and city tax revenue is behind the budget cuts.

Property tax values fell 6%. The city budgeted was based on a 1% drop.
