Graco infant car seat recall

Consumer Alert: 1.9 million infant car seats recalled for faulty buckle

Graco is one of the biggest names in children's products, so this recall will hit home for many mothers and fathers.

The company is recalling harness buckles used on approximately 1.9 million infant car seats. You may remember Graco recalled 4.2 million toddler infant seats for a similar problem earlier this year.

At the time, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration was pushing Graco to also recall the infant car seats, but Graco felt more research was needed.

The company says the problem with the toddler buckles could be caused by food and dried liquids spilled on the buckles, while also simply finding them hard to open.

Now, the company has worked with federal regulators and come up with this recall as a solution to alleviate any safety concerns.

Some consumers say they've had trouble opening the buckles on the infant car seats. Graco will provide free replacement buckles. The seats affected in the new recall were manufactured between July, 2010 and May, 2013.

"As the industry leader in baby and parenting essentials, the decisions we make about product safety are far-reaching," said Laurel Hurd, President of Graco Children's Products in a press release. "Both NHTSA and Graco investigated consumer concerns in an effort to address the issues with the buckles used on certain infant car seats, and we are pleased to announce a solution that we believe is in the best interest of consumers and underscores our shared commitment to child passenger safety."

Graco says no injuries have been reported connected to this new recall. While waiting for replacement kits, parents and caregivers should always continue to use an appropriate car seat. It says if no alternative is available, the affected car seats may be safely used until replacement buckles are available.

If you're concerned you may have one of the seats affected, you can get further information on the recall by going to https://secure.gracobucklerecall.com/recall2014, or by calling (877) 766-7470.

Graco will also provide a free replacement buckle to any consumer who has an infant car seat not included in this recall, but would like to update their buckle to Graco's current buckle design.
