ORION TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A man was charged Saturday with first-degree criminal sexual misconduct in a case involving a 7-year-old girl.
Matthew Ryan McBee, 35, was accused of sexually assaulting his girlfriend's 7-year-old daughter at a home on Sherry Road in Orion Township.
Deputies say McBee showed the girl pornography before the alleged assault.
The mother of the girl told Local 2 that she never thought in a million years McBee -- a man she has dated for more than two years and shared a home with -- would do this to her child.
The woman said there were no signs that McBee was preying on her daughter, but it was happening right in their home.
She said her daughter showed her McBee's hidden stash of pornographic magazines earlier this week and told her every detail of multiple incidences of abuse.
The mother said she is now focused on her child, hoping to help heal the scars caused by a man she trusted to care for her daughter.
McBee's bond is set at $500,000. If convicted, he could spend at least the next 25 years of his life in prison.
