Mount Clemens man arrested for robbing man on way to work in Chesterfield

Police say Alontez Willis, 18, followed man off bus, held gun to his head, robbed him

CHESTERFIELD, Mich. - Police have a man in custody after the gunpoint robbery of a man on his way to work in Chesterfield Sunday morning.

Police say 18-year-old Alontez Willis of Mount Clemens pulled a gun on a man who was walking from a bus stop to the Bed, Bath, and Beyond on Waterside Drive.

The 19-year-old victim from Warren, told police he got off the bus at 23 Mile Road and Gratiot.

He said a man also got off the bus and followed him down Vergote street. 

The victim reported the man tapped him on the shoulder and asked him for a cigarette. 

The suspect then pulled a handgun out of his pocket and held it to the man's temple while ordering him to empty his pockets.

The victim gave the robber his wallet and cell phone.

Police say the suspect fled and attempted to hail a bus as police units approached the scene.

The suspect fled on foot after seeing police.

Police searched the area and discovered Willis hiding in a dumpster on South Leona Drive. 

The loaded .22 revolver and the victim's cell phone were found in the dumpster and the wallet was later recovered and returned.

Willis was charged with armed robbery, felony firearm possession, and possession of a stolen forearm.

He was arraigned in 42-2 District Court and bond was set at $200,000.00 cash.
