Mystery surrounds body parts found in St. Clair County

Bags of male body parts found along rural roads in China Township

CHINA TOWNSHIP, Mich. – As deputies await the results of the autopsy they're following several leads in their investigation of the human remains found Thursday scattered across a rural stretch of road in and out of garbage bags just about a mile away from Interstate 94 in China Township.

Deputies are now saying the remains are that of a white male.

"We are, again, working on identification. We're tracking down missing people and we are hoping for tips to come in," said St. Clair County Sheriff Tim Donnellon.

On Thursday afternoon, along Fred Moore Highway and Allington Road, a middle-aged, heavy-set white woman was seen dumping the bags out of her mid-90s SUV, possibly a GMC Jimmy or Chevrolet Trailblazer. Investigators want to track down that woman.

What they found Friday morning could help them do that. They found another bag connected to the case on the entrance ramp to I-94 west off of Fred Moore Highway. No remains were in the bag, only clothes and charred papers.

"Our detectives went out on scene close to 5 a.m. It appears to be evidence related to the incident," said Donnellon.

They're not ruling out if there could be more remains scattered in the area. They're relying on the public's help to solve this mystery.

This isn't the first time human remains have been dumped in this county but the Sheriff says they haven't seen something quite like this.

"I'm not gonna say it's common, but it has happened in the past. Not usually to the extent that it's multiple bags and this type of dismemberment," said the Sheriff.
