Police: 11-year-old approached by 40-year-old man while playing basketball in Troy

Report says man instructed boy how to shoot basket, asked him what school he attends before leaving

TROY, Mich. – Police are on the lookout for a 40-year-old man who approached an 11-year-old in the 4000 block of Bentley in Troy.

The father of the 11-year-old tell Troy police his son was playing basketball in front of their home Wednesday afternoon when the man pulled up in his car and parked opposite the house.

The 11-year-old says the man approached him and asked for his basketball.  The man then instructed the boy how to shoot a basket.

After asking the child what school the boy went to, the man got back into his vehicle and drove away.

Description of suspect

Police describe the man as white, 5 feet 8 inches tall, heavy-set with gray hair and stubble on his face.  He also wore glasses and dressed in a white long sleeve button down shirt and black dress pants.

According to police, the man's car had a yellow "visitor" sticker on it and is described as a four-door, dark blue Chevrolet Malibu.
