Troy mayor under fire for Facebook post

Students protest mayor at City Hall for anti-gay post

DETROIT – Troy Mayor Janice Daniels is under fire for a Facebook post.

According to a Facebook account that appeared to belong to Daniels, she posted the following this past summer:

"I think I am going to throw away my I Love New York carrying bag now that queers can get married there."

Many consider the post to be anti-gay. The page has been deleted.

Students held a protest at City Hall on Monday.

Daniels issued an apology at the protest.

"I am not hiding," she said. "I think that you should look to the admiral qualities that you might find in me, rather than one comment that I said and make things difficult for me and the city in the future."

The Troy City Council has a meeting Monday night during which the post might be addressed.
