Royal Oak resident comes home to find intruder

Intruder suspected of other break-ins in the area

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – A Royal Oak man returned home from work early Thursday morning and found an intruder walking in the upstairs area of his home.

The resident quickly left his home and called the police from across the street.

According to Royal Oak police, this happened around 3 a.m. in the 1000 block of Iroquois. When the first two officers arrived the suspect came out the front door and ran from the area.

A perimeter was set up by the police and a K-9 officer from Madison Heights police started tracking the suspect but he was not found.

Royal Oak officers did recover property stolen from the home. Also, a handgun stolen the previous day from a home in Rochester Hills was found.

Police believe the same suspect is responsible for another break-in of a garage in the same block.

The suspect is described as a white man about 20-25 years old with a medium build, standing between 5 feet 8 inches and 6 feet tall, weighing 175 pounds and with dark hair. He was wearing a baseball hat, gray T-shirt, blue jean shorts and white gym shoes.
