DETROIT – Late morning and early afternoon thunderstorms will pound Detroit's western and southern suburbs until 2 p.m. Monday.
Ponding on roads and lightning are the main hazards, and there is a slight chance of small hail and gusty winds.

Some sun breaks out after 2pm while the atmosphere remains unstable. There is a threat of a second round of showers and thunderstorms forming and racing across Detroit and Southeast Michigan after 3 p.m. for the afternoon rush hour until sunset, which is just before 9:15 p.m.

The National Weather Service has put Detroit and all of Southern Lower Michigan in the "slight risk" category for severe weather. The Local 4 Casters will sound the alert on Local 4 News and JustWeather.com if any watches or warnings are issued.

Monday's warm front brings hotter, more humid air Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs will be in the 90s with mostly sunny skies both days.
Thursday will be near 90 degrees and another possibility of showers with a cold front. Warm comfortable air arrives behind the front for Friday and the weekend.
