Suspect attempts to steal a second vehicle from the same dealership within 3 days

23-year-old man arrested, charged with larceny

BLOOMFIELD TWP., Mich. – The Bloomfield Township Police Department has arrested Michael Thornton, 23, after he returned to Golling Chrysler in an attempt to steal a second vehicle.

According to a report released by police, Thornton appeared to show interest in purchasing a 2013 Dodge Charger from Golling Chrysler on June 12.

Police said Thornton and the salesman sat down and started to discuss the vehicle when Thornton said that he needed to make a phone call.  When the salesmen turned his attention to another customer Thornton reportedly grabbed the keys to the $52,000 Dodge Charger and fled in the vehicle.

Three days later dealership employees noticed Thornton returned to the dealership in an attempt to pull the same scam.

Golling Chrysler employees called police and Thornton was arrested. 

Thornton confessed to stealing the Charger and has been charged with larceny over $20,000 which is a 10-year felony.  Bond was set at $100,000 and he is currently being held at Oakland County Jail.
