LINCOLN PARK, Mich. – It hurts for Jeff Jones to see his 5-year-old daughter, who was born with Down syndrome, fight leukemia. Young Selah was diagnosed in July.
Jones puts jars sharing Selah's tough journey in businesses across town to help raise money for her medical expenses.
"The money that we collected certainly goes directly, right now, to supplying alternative and supplemental care for my daughter," Jones said.
On Monday, a man put his conscience aside and stole one of the jars from the 7-Eleven on Dix Highway in Lincoln Park. It is not known how much money was in the jar, but probably no more than $50.
"You're shocked, you know, you're appalled. You get a little frustrated and then you realize the world we live in is that way," said Jones.
It's not the only blow to Selah's medical fund. Another jar was stolen from a location on Fort Street in Southgate, on the same day. The devoted father just wants to know why someone would steal from his sweet little girl.
"If you lived in our world for a couple days, you spend a couple days with a family with a child who is going through chemotherapy, and I think you'd have a different heart about thinking about taking a dollar out of a jar, stealing a jar all together," said Jones.
The thief in both cases is described a black man standing about 6 feet tall and weighing about 200 pounds and about 40 years old.
The foundation for Selah is called Selah Says Society.
