Troy police: Man shot neighbor over dogs barking complaint

Police say 73-year-old Troy man shot his neighbor after an argument over the shooter's dogs barking

TROY, Mich. – A Troy man faces charges including assault with attempt to murder after police said he shot his neighbor in the face over the shooter's dogs' barking.

Troy police say 73-year-old David Keats was arrested Friday night after officers responded to a report of a shooting on Atlas Street. Keats is accused of shooting his 52-year-old neighbor in his face while they were arguing about the noise Keats' dogs were making.

According to police, Keats' three dogs were outside barking. His neighbor kicked the fence and yelled at the dogs to quiet down. Keats ran toward him and yelled, "Don't tell my dogs to shut up," police say.

That's when Keats began to shoot at the man. One round struck the man in the face, police said. Keats had fired four rounds at him as the victim ran away, police said.
