ROYAL OAK, Mich. - A semi-truck driver escaped serious injury after his vehicle burst into flames.
The accident happened about noon in the westbound lanes of Interstate 696 in Royal Oak.
Police shut down the freeway and forced traffic off at the Campbell-Hilton exit while they investigated the incident.
The freeway also remained closed while road crews removed the wreckage and cleaned up fuel that spilled during the incident. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
The westbound lanes of I-696 reopened in time for the afternoon rush hour.
