Poll: Ficano dead last for Wayne County executive

Poll shows Executive Robert Ficano not getting support for re-election

DETROIT – Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano placed dead last in a new poll asking voters who their pick is for the next county executive term.

Detroit Mayor Dave Bing may come out on top in this poll conducted by Target Insyght. However, it's only at 20 percent -- hardly a resounding victory.

In second place is state Representative Phil Kavanagh at 15 percent. Wayne County Commissioner Kevin McNamara is at 12 percent and both Ficano and Westland Mayor William Wild are at 11 percent.

The numbers from this poll might show the electorate is not exactly charmed with its choices. The poll had a 500 sample and polled only Democrats.

Experts say these numbers mean two things:

1. This race is wide open
2. The more people crowd a Democratic primary for executive, the better chance Ficano has in coming out on top

The more candidates, the more the vote will be split. Moreover, Ficano probably will have more money to spend than any of the rest.
